Remembering Last Christmas

It was simply a little over a year ago when guitar hero came full force into my life.  I had played guitar hero 1&2 at a friends house a few times and i loved the concept i was just disappointed in the covers of the songs.  I had recently purchased my Wii and heard that guitar hero 3 had been released for the Wii.  the search began for this game that seemed to be so elusive to me.  My wife and i search for the longest time but got nowhere.

Living in Texas now and my family living in Ohio we dont get to see much of eachother.  My parents had offered to fly us up north for Christmas.  Now I've only been on a plane 1 time ever and i didnt really care for it much.  The wife on the other hand is terrified of flying and was not excited at all.  My mother had asked many times what i wanted for Christmas and everytime i answered with Guitar Hero 3!!!  i was very excitied to get up there to get my game.  My mother has always managed to get me that 1 item i want more than anything every year so i wasnt concerned with her not finding the game that had seem to escape my grasp for some reason.  The plane ride was great for me however my wife didnt have such a good time.  We ended up landing in Ohio in a full blown blizzard.  It was great to finally be back at my parents house to share the holidays with them since i hadnt been back there since i moved away from the area 4 years ago. All i could think of was opening my guitar hero 3 game and playing on my mothers Wii right away.  The funny thing about parents is they love to make you wait forever to open gifts.  Now im no youngster but the anticipation was killing me, I felt like a kid again for sure.

We begin the unwrapping of gifts, with paper flying all over and smiles gleaming between myself, my wife, my brother and his wife we all had recieved some great gifts.  it seemed something was missing. NO GUITAR HERO!!!!!
I looked all over the room for a hidden or forgotten package but it was nowhere to be found.  i was so bummed out.  The rest of the week with my parents was fun just hanging out not having to work enjoying my time with them.  I knew that she had tried to find the game but she said they were all gone everywhere.  My mom always had a way of turning my frown upside down though.  She gave me the classic christmas line i had recieved so many times "Your birthday is in a few weeks"  With my bday falling in mid January i always got the hook up on the gift i couldnt get for christmas.

The holiday was over and it was time to return to the "real world" of work and paying bills again.  A few days after being at home i got a phone call from my mom and she said "guess what your dad just got me?"  I knew in the back of my mind what the answer was but i didnt want to face the truth.  She didnt even wait for me to give an answer.  it was Guitar Hero 3 for her Wii.  MY MOM GOT GH3 BEFORE I DID!!!  I was so mad.  She told me that my dad got the last one and they wouldnt have anymore for a few weeks.  So im thinking "great i got screwed at christmas and my bday"  The next day i get home from work and there is a FedEx slip on my dooor.  I got back in my car and drove to the FedEx office to pick up my package.  It had a strange address on it so i was assuming it was something my wife had ordered off of the TV or something.  I get home and proceed to open the package and i just about jumped out of my skin.  it was infact Guitar Hero 3!!!  From that moment i have not been able to put the game down.  I no longer had to wait in line to play at WalMart or GameStop.  I owned it now it was mine!!!

I called my parents and thanked them for the best gift ever.  With the holidays upon us the wife and I will be driving 18 hours to my parents house this year.  I was asked to bring Guitar Hero World Tour since my dad hasnt purchased it for my mom yet.  My mother is looking forward to us all getting together and doing some Band VS Band play.  Looks like its gonna be another great holiday season.  There is nothing better than sharing the love of guitar hero with your family during the holidays or any day of the year!!

Happy Holidays to you all!!!
